Emerging from the Haze with Sunday Updates

Smiley McPrepsterAs we recover from the sleep-deprived haze which has surrounded the Gerty household for about 4 months, we notice a routine emerging. We are joyous beyond words that Evan approves of this routine and that it (usually) includes 8-10 hours of sleep in the evening hours! There are other more random parts, like a nap somewhere between 10 and 4 which lasts between 20 and 180 minutes. Not that we would be able to notice this routine if it wasn't for our true-to-nerd-form online "Baby Telemetry" service. Using this website, we mark when Evan is asleep (blue) and awake (yellow). To prove how much better things have been, here was Evan's sleep schedule at one month:
Sleepyheads live hereAnd this is how much better his routine has become since then:
9:30 bedtime? WOW!
So as we reinvent our lives for three, we realize that even the most random and painless tasks need to be deliberately scheduled, or they just don't get done. Case in point - our blog. It used to be updated almost every time we thought of our new baby on the way. But we do realize that for some, this is the only easy way to catch up with us. So we will now declare Sundays as our Family Day, making the blog updates one of the rituals of that day of the week. Feel free to nag us if that doesn't happen. We'll also try to be logged into Skype on Sundays, and try to keep Evan's babycam up as we can during the day.

So what has been happening? We've been taking lots of pictures. Maureen has done a great job at pulling together the good ones, and has put them onto Google's PicasaWeb Albums under her username, "mo.gerty" (@gmail.com). Use this link to get to them: http://picasaweb.google.com/mo.gerty

We're keeping track of Evan's milestones as we hit them. Just this weekend he started rolling over on his own - we're still not sure if local topography had anything to do with his success, but we're sure that he'll be doing side-flips soon enough. He's also just started "eating" rice cereal from a spoon, if you can call smearing food all over your tongue and then jabbering about it "eating".

The jabbering is another fun one. He loves to talk, just like mom and dad, but he's the only one who seems to understand what he's talking about. No idea who he could have gotten that trait from (yeah - bring on the comments). Here's a video of when he just started talking - he's more forceful about it now:

I think he was talking about wanting to buy some CRI stock on E*Trade, but I'll need get one of those baby translators from Danny DeVito to know for sure.

Well, that's the end of my scheduled window - now it's time to start prepping for another fun week at work, which will hopefully include a walk down the 4-South hallway where they hang all of the welcome home pictures for STS-119. Can you believe that after 10 years, the International Space Station actually looks like all of the lapel pins they've been selling for the past 15 years?!? Amazing work, guys!

Yay! I shall be visiting your website weekly now (instead of sporadically looking for updates) and if you see us on Skype feel free to send a call. It may take a few seconds to get my mike sorted though!
